Taking control of her life and family through the College of Hope programs.
“Lynn” came to Housing Hope pregnant and with a one year old son. She had been experiencing homelessness for several months and was thrilled to have a stable place to live, but she was struggling with managing her household. She did not have positive role models in her childhood, so she had no idea how to balance a budget, keep her home clean, or appropriately discipline her son. Her Family Support Coach recommended the College of Hope financial management course and she fell in love with the program.
The skills and knowledge that she has learned in class have given her the tools she needed to stabilize her family and plan for her future.
Today, she has taken almost every College of Hope course currently offered, and has even taken some courses three or four times! She loves the classroom environment and says she always learns something new, even if she’s taken the course before. She has applied the parenting skills learned in class and keeps a very detailed spiral bound notebook for her monthly budget. More importantly, she actually sticks to it. Her home is always clean and orderly, even with a 4 month old and 2 year old, which she attributes to the Keep It Clean course. After taking The Incredible Years parenting course, she made charts and reward calendars for her 2 year old, where he earns rewards for good behaviors. This system has improved his behavior and made their home a happier, healthier place to live.
Lynn speaks very highly of the College of Hope instructors and the child care providers. The skills and knowledge that she has learned in class have given her the tools she needed to stabilize her family and plan for her future.
